Countdown to the playoffs…

It’s the home stretch to the NHL playoffs, which always seems to make hockey that much more exciting. Even those poor mis-lead souls who don’t normally watch hockey all season start tuning in come playoff time.
The Canucks rule in this house hands down, but a close second and third are the other two Western Canadian NHL teams, namely the Calgary Flames and the Edmonton Oilers. I don’t care what anyone says - the best games are when any of these three play one another. I have to admit, the past couple of months have found me a bit bored of Canuck hockey. There just didn’t seem to be any life or pizazz to them. But then came the game with Edmonton last week. It was a high energy, high emotion game from start to finish. Hockey fights - oh how I love thee!
And speaking of hockey fights, even a die-hard Canuck fan like me has to admire Jarome Iginla’s spirit in games. One thing the Canucks don’t have that Calgary does is a Captain that will drop the gloves and get his entire team into the game with him. And who doesn’t like to watch those massive hits that Dion Phaneuf hands out? A more physical game is just so much more fun to watch!
Crunch time is fast approaching, and you can get all your Flame news at the Flames Forum. The Flames and the Canucks have quite a few games against each other at the end of the season, so here’s hoping I’ll see titles like “Canucks Douse Flames” and “Flames Fire Sizzles” over at the forum! (Given that they’ve already clinched a playoff spot, there’s no harm in some good natured ribbing!)
